Playa Grande
One of Central America's Most Renowned Beach Breaks
With about 300 surfing-days a year, Playa Grande is truly a surfer's paradise. True to it's name, this huge, 5 kilometer stretch of white sandy beach offers many different breaks and is known for its perfect barrel created by the favorable offshore winds. Situated in the Province of Guanacaste, just north of Tamarindo and south of Flamingo, Playa Grande comprises most of Parque Nacional Marino Laus Baulas, one of Central America's most valued and protected nesting sites for the giant leatherback sea turtle. Backed by a large mangrove estuary, it's also home to many nesting birds and other wildlife.
