How To Get there?
Besides a few sailing and boat charters; flying to Liberia (LIR) or one of the domestic jumper plane airports is your best option. The border crossing from Nicaragua via Penas Blancas along the Pan American Highway is inexpensive via Bus, Taxi or Car. (rental car companies generally do not allow border crossings). INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS to the International Airport of "LIR" Liberia is very easy from major cities in the United States (Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, L.A., New York, ...). Air Travel to/from SJO San Jose is an alternative but requires a longer travel time to this region of Costa Rica. (limited International Air Travel via Pavas Airport)
How to Best Travel Inside of Costa Rica
In terms of Transportation and Rentals Costa Rica has it all. A wide variety of Rental Car Companies allow you to rent any size car. The bus system is well advanced, affordable, and quite reliable but a bit time intensive. And the world's first carbon free airline (Nature Air) as well as Sansa and Helicopter providers let you experience the whole country in no-time.
